Two Way Mirror Light Transmission

A one way mirror also called two way mirror or one way glass half silvered mirror and semi transparent mirror is a reciprocal mirror that appears reflective on one side and transparent at the other.

A mirror is a smooth surface that is able to reflect almost all of the light that strikes it. If installed backwards the coated side on the back it can cheat the fingernail test looking like the reflection of a standard mirror. We also have a dielectric tv mirror which gives you the best display quality with 70 light transmission and 30 reflection. If one side of the mirror is bright and one is dark the 70 light being reflected from the bright side will cause the light passing through from the dark side to be nearly indistinguishable giving the appearance of a normal mirror on the bright side but a window on the dark side.

The perception of one way transmission is achieved when one side of the mirror is brightly lit and the other side is dark. Also available in polycarbonate. Two way mirrors allow only 30 of light to pass through them. When illuminated the side with the light source will be reflective and the opposite darkened side will be transparent.

The surface has to be smooth as rough surfaces scatter light rather than reflecting it. It is also called a half silvered surface as just enough reflecting metal film is deposited on the glass so that about half of the light is reflected. Also known as two way mirror see thru mirror allows a percentage of incident light to pass through while reflecting the remainder. Not for use with high humidity or contact with water.

Traditionally mirrors are made of clear glass that has a coating of silver aluminum or tin on one side. Meaning it can be installed either way. Actually the two way mirror is letting about half of the light through and reflecting the other half of the light from both sides.
